Adam
The First Man
Key Scripture
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
— Genesis 2:7
✦Life Story
Adam is the beginning — the first human being, formed from dust and animated by the breath of God. He walked with God in the cool of the day, was given dominion over creation, and was entrusted with the garden. His failure — choosing his own judgment over God's word — introduced sin and its consequences into the human story. Yet his story does not end in the garden. God made the first sacrifice to clothe him and Eve, pointing forward to the solution He had already planned. Paul calls Jesus the last Adam — who where the first Adam fell, succeeded. Adam's story is our story: made for communion with God, broken by self-will, and in need of the redemption only God can provide.
