Abraham
Father of Faith
Key Scripture
“And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.”
— Genesis 15:6

✦Life Story
Abraham was seventy-five years old when God told him to leave everything familiar and walk toward a land he had never seen. He went. He is called the father of faith not because he was perfect — he lied twice about his wife and fathered a child with her servant — but because again and again he believed God's promises in the face of the humanly impossible. When God asked him to sacrifice his only son Isaac, he obeyed, trusting that God could raise the dead. That act of surrender was declared the pinnacle of faith. Every covenant of blessing that flows through Scripture — to Israel, to the nations, and to the church — traces back to the moment Abraham said yes.
Famous Scriptures
Genesis 15:5–6
Faith Counted as Righteousness
“And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.”
Genesis 22:14
The LORD Will Provide
“And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.”
Hebrews 11:8–10
Faith That Moves
“By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: for he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”
Romans 4:20–21
No Unbelief
“He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; and being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”
