Genesis 32:28

Jacob — Bible Hero Card

Life Story

Jacob was a deceiver by nature — his very name means heel-grabber. He stole his brother's birthright and his father's blessing. He fled, he wrestled, he schemed. But he was also a man who encountered God at Bethel and clung to Him all night at the ford of Jabbok, refusing to let go until God blessed him. In that wrestling, he received a new name — Israel, one who strives with God — and a limp he would carry the rest of his life. His twelve sons became the twelve tribes of Israel. Jacob's story teaches us that God does not work only through the clean and the noble; He meets us in our mess, wrestles with us until we stop running, and gives us a name that outlasts our sin.
