Mary was a teenage girl in an obscure village when the angel Gabriel appeared with the most world-altering announcement in history: she would conceive and bear the Son of God. Her response — be it unto me according to thy word — is one of the most powerful acts of faith in Scripture. She accepted a calling that would bring social scandal, the confusion of her fiancé, and ultimately the unbearable grief of watching her son crucified. She magnified God in her song even before the promise had unfolded. She held Jesus as an infant and stood at the foot of His cross. She was in the upper room at Pentecost.
